Introduction

Spectral line analysis can proceed either by using an RMF (redistribution matrix) and forward folding to fit a model to the data, or with high resolution spectral data using line profile to fit individual emission lines. Here we will discuss using the line profile for the analysis of HETG data. First we will present an overview of the analysis path and the programs used in the analysis. Below we will assume that the data has be processed and the spectra extracted using methods discussed elsewhere (e.g. CIAO threads). These examples will be done using ISIS which is a prototype of the Guide software which is scheduled to appear in CIAO 2.1. An ISIS manual and overview can be found at http://space.mit.edu.ezproxyberklee.flo.org/ASC/ISIS/.
