HETG Calibration Results Examples, June 1998
Some examples from SPIE'98 papers that are in preparation
by a variety of authors/institutions:
- "Verifying the HETG spectrometer Rowland Design"
-
Quadrant shutter tests with the Al-K line are used to measure the
focus of the various diffraction orders on the ACIS-S array.
- "Analysis and modeling of anomalous scattering
in the AXAF HETGS"
-
Low-level scattering in the HEG was seen using the "cusp" on the HSI in Phase 1.
Detailed analysis of Phase 2 ACIS-S scatering data is indicating a scattering
model that includes bar-bar correlations.
- "AXAF grating efficiency measurements with
calibrated, non-imaging detectors"
-
In Phase 1, grating efficiency is measured as a ratio of "grating-in" to
"grating-out" count rates. Source spectral knowledge and detailed
MARX simulations are providing guidance and corrections to the raw
FPC data.
- "Comparison of HETGS and ACIS-S absolute effective areas"
-
Using the extensive set of monochromator data sets taken in Phase 2,
the HETGS effective area (HRMA-HETG-ACIS-S) is measured and
compared to current predictions.
- "Spectral features in the AXAF HETGS effective area
using high-signal continuum tests"
-
The Cu and C EIPS anodes operated without filters provide
broadband continuum as input to the HETGS. These data sets
have hundreds of counts per pixel allowing detailed study and search
of spectral features in the HETGS response.
