Problem: Synopsis: history mechanism proposed is inconsistent with all other tools in system. The history mechanism used by all other tools is described in ASC-FITS-1.4 which describes the HISTORY keywords used to record the inputs & outputs. The asphist ICD calls for an extra extension to put the entire parameter file. This would make it inconsistent with all other tools. This extension should be removed from the ICD. Dependendies: No dependencies. If there are specific parameters that need to get added to header then they should be itemized specifically. This will allow any tools that need to access the values of the parameters to do so without having to parse the embedded par file. Just to follow this up a little... My reaction is based in part on a decision that pre-dates my current role. There was a meeting some time ago between some subset of SDS + Arnold + Janet + others to work out the history mechanism for all the tools. There were two extremes: all parameters get recorded in history keys or only inputs & outputs stored in history keys. The decision was to go with only storing the inputs and outputs in the history keys ... and each tool would then have a hand full of parameters that it would propagate to the output file as individual keywords. (SDS 7.2, 11 Jan 99). Dependencies: FITS Keyword Conventions for ASC Data Model files. Reply: There several "conventions", 2 of which are given in the CXC "FITS Keyword Conventions" document. Due Date: 990215 Status: open, pending ruling from JCM, AR. 990210 JCM reccommends: TBD, pending resolution of CTYPEmk adoption. Arnold says CTYPEmk is the one; kCTYPm is for multi-dimensional table elements (e.g., a column of images). 990301 Updated text - made "generic" pending specification of correct keywords. Added appendix w/ explicit examples of coords. OPEN.
