RESEARCH INTERESTS
Dr. Allen spent his graduate career endeavoring to demonstrate that supernova
remnants (SNRs) accelerate Galactic cosmic-ray nuclei by searching for evidence
that SNRs emit 100 TeV gamma rays.
As a postdoctoral research associate, he is continuing to search for evidence
of particle acceleration in SNRs by analyzing the X-ray spectra of SNRs to
search for evidence of synchrotron emission from electrons accelerated to
energies of about 100 TeV in the remnants.
Dr. Allen is also interested in isolated neutron stars, such as the Geminga
pulsar, and is working with the PCA team of the RXTE mission to help determine
the cosmic X-ray background for the PCA and to help cross calibrate the PCA and
HEXTE instruments of the RXTE satellite.
